Seeking Virgin Whisperer
Two of Mi Chau's books are not yet shown on our website.
Her book, Seeking Virgin Whisperer, was mentioned in Why a War Hero Would Leave the Fish Pan in the Sink. Mi Chau describes The Great Loneliness she experienced for much of her life into her mid-twenties. She attributes that loneliness to her Ma's (Bon's) dictums that "All men are Pirates" and "We're not whores." Bon feared that if Mi Chau made friends with boys or had sex, she would be considered a whore, just as Bon had unresolved shame about sexual assaults on their Vietnam Boat People escape boat.
Bon's—and through her—Mi Chau's prohibition and avoidance of sex and even friendship with men was irrational and unhealthy, one of many of the symptoms of their Pirate trauma. Neurotic behaviors which originate in psychic wounds cannot be overcome through willpower alone. Just as Mi and Michael used poetry to release their hidden stories and locked emotions, Mi Chau developed a creative literary workaround to break out of her Great Loneliness, with disturbing family consequences in the War Hero book.
But the book, Seeking Virgin Whisperer, is much more than that clever sexual solution. In a broader sense it is Mi Chau's framing of male/female sexual relations as a Hunter and Hunted world, and she writes from the viewpoint of many women who at one or many points in their lives experience being the Hunted. In the War Book, Grampa Olver, Uncle Cal, and Michael try to give Mi tactics to defend herself from Hunters, acknowledging that even as men they understand her vulnerability.
Mi Chau even shows how evolution has created the sexual hunting dynamic. Yet her own evolution requires her to move beyond that polarized and simplistic view. Not all men are Pirates, at least not all the time. Sometimes they are Protectors or Lovers. Sometimes women and girls don't buy into the Hunted role and find their own power. Sometimes both genders shapeshift: a man may be a Pirate in one relationship at one time and a Lover or Protector in another, and a woman may have some control over which shape he assumes.
The Teepee Lovers
At the end of the War Hero book, Mi Chau referred to the book, rock opera, or movie (possibly to be called The Teepee Lovers) she and her partner were working on. You may have noticed that they had very different ideas about how to proceed.
We hope to obtain that manuscript and publish it at some point.
Gaia Chi Lit as a publisher plans to offer some books or stories that include sexual language and characters having sex as part of their lives. Mi Chau Miller's current book, Why a War Hero Would Leave the Fish Pan in the Sink, includes both traumatic and romantic sex, yet we consider it suitable for public release.
Love doesn't have to be romantic or sexual, but since those types of love are popular, many stories include them. Romance books are a top-selling genre, and the category ranges from emotional love with barely a kiss or hug to "steamy," to "spicy," to erotica, and pornography, with escalating degrees of balance between romance and sex, from subtlety to graphic detail.
Mi Chau Miller's book, Seeking Virgin Whisperer, is a book that may require age restrictions, so for now we are holding that aside.
